Are You One Of His Noble Ones? It’s time for a Bible Revival

Acts 17 (ESV)
10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Before sharing my thoughts on these two verses, I want to give some background on the text.

Paul travelled to the Greek city of Thessalonica where he boldly proclaimed the gospel of Jesus in the hope of seeing the people born-again. For three weeks he ministered to the Thessalonicans and reasoned with them from the scriptures. Paul was having great success amongst the devout Greeks, and many leading women were saved. Even some of the Jews in the region were persuaded by Paul’s preaching. However, the Jews who were not persuaded became jealous of Paul’s growing influence. These Jews began to persecute Paul, provoking the city into an uproar against him. The persecution became so intense that Paul had to flee the city and move on to his next destination. This is where our above text begins.

The people of Berea were a lot different to those in Thessalonica. God describes them inverse eleven as being “noble”. They were humble enough to listen to Paul’s teaching. In fact, they weren’t just humble, they were eager to hear as Paul reasoned from the scriptures. What I love about those in Berea is that, they didn’t just blindly believe what Paul was saying. They took Paul’s words back to the scriptures daily. They examined his teaching to test whether it lined up with the written Word of God.Our goal in the school is to raise up noble people such as this. Students who would receive the teaching with eagerness but who would also examine the scriptures daily. It’s a Berean-heart culture. We always want to honour and respect preachers and teachers, but we can’t just believe everything that people say blindly. We believe what we believe because it is written in the Word of God. God is wanting to raise up this generation to have a noble heart like the Bereans. Did you know that Smith Wigglesworth prophesied about an end-time revival? I believe, that his prophecy was accurate. And even more exiting, I believe we are of the cusp of that revival right now. He said one of the signs that would mark the beginning of this revival is when the Word and the Spirit come together. That means when the people of God are just as hungry and equally value the Spirit and the Word of God.
